メッセージをいただきました
新年のご挨拶
私は日本と日本人の皆さんが大好きです。レストランでのサービスから最先端のテクノロジーまで、素晴らしいものであふれています。
かつて政治家であり、現在はビジネス界にいる私から見て、日本とニュージーランドの関係は非常に友好的で、成熟していると感じています。ビジネス界でも強力な協力関係による投資活動などを見てきました。政治的にも、多国間主義や法の支配といった価値観を共有しており、国際的な仲間として付き合いやすい関係です。
1980年代から1990年代にかけて、両国の商業関係はさらなる高みに達しました。それ以来、活発な活動が続いています。
しかし、このような成長とともに、我々の絆を常に活性化させ続ける必要があります。そのため、オークランド商工会議所 (Auckland Business Chamber) では、ニュージーランドに拠点を置く日本企業や、素晴らしいオークランド総領事・松居眞司氏と会話を重ね、2024年にビジネス代表団を派遣することを検討しています。
新エネルギー、交通、テクノロジー、インフラ、そして観光業、食料、その他の第一次産業界など、ほんの一握りの分野を挙げるだけでも、国や企業として協力できる、ワクワクする新しい取り組みがあることを私たちは知っています。
実際、私たちのスキルや属性は非常に相互補完の関係であり、不確実性と変化に満ちた世界において、より深く協力し合うのに適しています。
簡単に言えば、日本は豊富な経験と専門知識を有する高度先進工業国であり、一方ニュージーランドは卓越したニッチな市場と素晴らしい天然資源を持ち、お互いの利益のためにともに活用できる可能性を秘めているのです。
ニュージーランドの日系コミュニティの皆様にとって、新年が幸多き年でありますようお祈り申し上げます。2024年、私たちはともに成し遂げるべきことがたくさんあります。

New Year Message（メッセージ原文）
I have always loved Japan and its people. Japanese have an amazing way of doing things from service at restaurants to the most advanced technology.
As someone who was once a politician and is now a businessperson, I can say that the relationship between Japan and New Zealand is a deep one with great friendship and maturity. We have seen strong partnerships and investment in the business world. And politically, we share the same values around the likes of multilateralism and the rule of law, so that we are easy international companions.
The 1980s and 1990s saw commercial relations between our countries grow to great new heights. Since then, a strong level of activity has continued.
But it is also true that with this maturation we do need to ensure we keep reinvigorating our ties. This is why at the Auckland Business Chamber we are spending much time with Japanese businesses based in New Zealand, the excellent Auckland Consul General, Shinji Matsui, and are considering a business delegation there in 2024.
We know that there are exciting new initiatives we can collaborate on as nations and businesses in new energy, transport, technology, and infrastructure, as well as in tourism, food and other primary production, to name just a handful of areas.
Indeed, our skills and attributes are highly complementary and lend themselves to us working much more deeply together in a world of uncertainty and change. Simply put, Japan is a highly advanced industrial nation with huge experience and expertise, while New Zealand has niche pockets of excellence and great natural resources and potential for harnessing together for our mutual benefit.
I wish all our Japanese New Zealand community a happy and prosperous New Year. We have much to do together in 2024.
